Nanoha_TV-DVD-Comparison (DVD-3) thumbWhile China* put up a firewall which blocks RSS and blog websites I present you a small article about tv-series releases to (licensed) DVD. As people might know, the most tv-series are free but the DVD is not. The DVD isn’t only a sell item, but also a masterpiece of quality…

Though it’s what you expect as we can see in the example left. The first picture compares the wrong directional face to the speaker. Then we have 2 quality issues and in the last comparison we find a horizon fix. However some company’s does it otherwise, like odex for instance. From good to bad…

Odex compareOdex is a Singapore-based company that licenses and releases anime for local and regional (Southeast Asian) consumption. Read the Odex Wikipedia for more information about the company. A screenshot of their great harvest and quality issues is located on the right.

Not only the subs, quality (colors and resolution) but even the screen is stretched (read f*cked up). The subs you see are those subs of A.F.K if we should believe anime desho. Subs stealing from fansubbers aren’t new and aren’t that bad. Fansubbers almost always have better subs/ translation than the proffesional dvd’s translations. Oh, don’t think it’s only odex, I just named them as example, but ADV dvd’s get their hands into those business as well. (Though I prefer have ADV instead of Odex … Much more prefer Mediablaster or VIZ :S Well, that’s of topic isn’t it)

Nanoha_TV-DVD-Comparison (DVD-3) 2Like the Nanoha series I got, I prefer like the The Triad subs. Mwa, well, it got licensed so I had to buy the great series, still not because of the great subbing or quality.

If a tv-series goes DVD the series get’s most of time licensed. That isn’t too bad, ’cause the company’s needs to earn some money. However we find company’s licensing anime’s without having a single DVD released! Or worse, they get licensed and the company’s seller domain never reaches beyond the Japaneses borders. So, it won’t get translated and you never see your anime ever again :( . DarkMirage tells more about how Odex ‘obtained’ Singapore’s anime licenses.

*China put a firewall last night which blocks all site if the content or url address has ‘blog’ or ‘rss’ inside. The Chinese people can always use the tor-network, proxy servers or cached pages through google to get their content. However it’s a little pain in the *ss. If it continues this way I probably end up creating an category ‘Politics’ .
