Battle Angel Alita is all about a little cyborg girl…
Introduction
I was told by my girlfriend, that this anime is just great. She readed the manga and think it is totally awesome. So I bought it, both DVD and Manga, first the movie because I found the DVD earlier than the Manga’s… (I still haven’t got all manga’s, I don’t think they will ever arrive anymore). Well, about the movie. The movie is 2 OVA’s long or 1 DVD big. As The little headline tells you, it’s all about a little cyborg girl. She was found bij a man Igo. Now in the OVA the girl is named ‘Gally’, but on the DVD and in the manga’s this is Alita, heck the title. I’m not aware of why the renaming of ‘Alita’ to ‘Gally’, if you know please, write a comment or send me a mail, thank you. What I think about the renaming? Sucks, the title is Battle Angel Alita in g*d shake, why rename her name? Urm, shouldn’t have scolded…
Story
Ok, the girl is found by a man Igo on a rubbish dump (poor thing). Whole the body is ruined as you can see at the second picture, but doctor Igo manage it to repair her. Though the repair goes well, her memories are gone. So, not knowing where to go she stays at her saviour’s house and learns the livings of the ‘garbage colletors’, the low forms of this planet. The world has in fact two levels, the low forms and the rich forms. There is a signifactly difference between them, one has to survive, other live for joy. At any case, that’s what the garbage collectors thinks. What really happens at Tiphares, no one knowes, because no one can get there. It’s the people dream to live in Tiphares happily. But Gally does not, she loves everything she has now, her live, the house, it’s surroundings, the people and even the strange boy who’s there for the windtrap. Igo, on his turn, loves her and treats her like his own daughter, but he forgets she is a individual and want to act for herself. So after a little hick up in the tiny family she becomes a fighter, because it seems doctor Igo isn’t a nice boy either.
Character
Characters have a great background story. Their motives are really related to their history and it all seems logic. Though sometimes it’s a bit sick how people think, but the developpers of the movie succeeded to create another world, another mentality of people. For example, cyborgs are a usual fact on the planet and people are accustomed to them, so none of them will ever look up or be surprised when a head thumbles over the ground. They also have markets adjusted to cyborgs, not only to sell oil but even body parts is sold there.
Genre
Science fiction, drama and really action full. It’s only science fiction because of the cyborgs and the time they live, not very special. Still the story is really dramatic and gives a great boosts in fights. Yes, definetly worth watching.
Compare to Manga
If you like the OVA/DVD you will love the Manga. The manga is much deeper and is very meany and sad. The movie is the first volume of the manga, so you might not want to buy it, it’s exactly the same, so don’t bother. (Although the name Gally is Alita as it should be)
At last, be warned there is some gore and blood in this anime. A little bit of ecchi, but that’s only for a little minute… So still suitable for kids.
