Shamal is one of the wolkenritters in Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A’s and StrikerS. Together with Vita, Signum and Zafira she makes part of party to protect the master of the book of darkness, Hayate. Her device is called “Clear Wind” which is alike a two diamond shaped stones carved on two rings each. Shamal wears the rings on her forefinger and the second on her ringfinger.
In battle she doesn’t directly merges into battle, as her strength isn’t physical attended. Instead she casts curses and steals magic from her victims’ Linker Core’s. A linker core is the heart of a magician in which magic flows from. Without a linker core, the magician has no magic and so cannot cast spells. A linker core can be broken if Shamal leeches a longer period.
It is Shamal’s duty to keep an eye on the group and transfer the adsorbed magic to the book of darkness and fill it. She acts like the mother of the group.

Shamal is my first CMS figure. I knew the quality would be less than Alter, GoodSmile and Figma, but the figure didn’t look too bad.
Now I have the figure I think the overall expression is fine. The clothes and colors matches the anime. However the joints and bolts aren’t very appealing and is visible in any angle you watch. On the first sight the painting looks ok, but there is no decent painting when you zoom in.
Enough bad talking. The good part of this figure is the various faces you ‘get’ along. You get a droopy, dreamy, aggressive and a peaceful smiling face. Altogether with an open and closed version of the book of darkness and a pair of left hands you can set various poses.
Please note, the book of darkness belongs to the mistress Hayate. However when you watches the first episodes of the Nanoha series you find Shamal keeping the book of darkness. Unless I would spoil the plot I could tell you why, but you better watch Nanoha’s first sequel yourselves. Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A’s.
The close up reveals some painting errors, especially the hair. Though they won’t show up when you check your figure on a distance. Just don’t put it on the first row of your showcase, it might tarnish your good name ^^. The bolts and joints are the biggest problem ’cause they are so big. I’m starting to get more respect for Figma.
My opinion would be. A nice figure, average quality, poor painting but well shaped and honorful anime figure. The action figure concept is well preserved as you can make nice poses. Shamal is cool and I’m happy to have her. On the other side, I won’t buy CMS Fate Testarossa. I would advise you to pre-order Alter Fate Testarossa Sonic version instead. It is a look alike, have the dual blade and is way better to spend your money on, though it’s really expensive (€150, $195).
